lessons

ISR Self-Rescue lessons are for children 6 months to 6 years with one-on-one instruction.  Lessons are conducted 5 days a week (Monday through Friday), at a maximum of 10 minutes daily, for approximately 6-8 weeks. Each child has their own lesson time daily.

Our results are achieved through fully customized, safe and effective, one-on-one ISR swim lessons with only your child and the instructor in the water. What your child will learn, and the way he or she will learn it, is what makes ISR swim lessons so different from traditional swim lessons. Always putting safety first, ISR emphasizes competence, which leads to confidence, and provides the foundation for a lifetime of enjoyment in and around the water.

What your child will learn depends on his or her age and developmental readiness, but in all cases, at minimum, your child will learn to roll onto his or her back to float, rest, and breathe, and to maintain this position until help arrives.

Rollback to Float

The rollback to float program teaches your baby to independently turn themselves onto their back if ever face down in the water to safely breathe, rest, and float until help arrives.

Infants to Early Walkers

Swim-Rollback-Float

With swim-rollback-float lessons, your child can swim underwater until they need to breathe, roll to their back to rest, breathe, and float until rescued by an adult.

Early Walkers

Swim-Float-Swim

The swim-float-swim program teaches your child to swim underwater until they need to breathe, roll to their back for a few breaths until rested, then swim starting the sequence again until they reach the pool steps, side of the pool, or the shoreline.

Skill Maintenance and Continuation

It is very important to keep your child's lifesaving ISR skills sharp and progressing! Just like learning a new language, water safety skills require consistent practice to stay strong. With regular maintenance and refresher lessons, your child's abilities will continue to grow. Once your child masters the floater skill, they can move on to skill advancement, progressing to swim-float-swim when ready.

Maintenance Lessons

Single-day maintenance lessons help students retain their skills and build confidence year-round, while also signaling readiness for skill advancement. Here at Swim with Julia, we suggest scheduling these lessons at intervals, anywhere from a few times a week to once a month.

Refresher lessons

Refresher lessons are recommended if a student has been out of lessons for more than 3 months. These lessons are typically scheduled for two weeks, five days a week, for ten minutes a day. As children grow, their skills need to be adapted to their changing height and weight. Refreshers are especially beneficial to fine-tune their skills, as they have likely reached new developmental milestones since their last session with us.
